Mindfulness Challenge: Day 9

Lavender Fields

Welcome to Day 9 of the 21 Day Mindfulness Challenge!

Today’s Mindful Message is to use your sense of smell

It is all about aroma today! Stop and smell the roses…literally. Perhaps light a scented candle or use some essential oils to help boost your mood. From the moment we are born, our sense of smell has influence over us. Think back on a pleasant memory that is triggered by your sense of smell. Perhaps the smell of fresh bread or pie baking in the oven takes you back to a lovely family gathering or a specific perfume that reminds you of a loved one. Close your eyes for a moment and appreciate the comfort and bliss that this memory holds for you.

Did you know that essential oils are a great way to reduce stress, agitation and anxiety? You can use specific oils to improve your sleep quality and manage certain aches and pain including headaches and migraines and sore joints.

Peppermint oil is commonly used to treat headaches or migraines because it contains menthol which helps ease pain and relax muscles. It’s also used to improve memory, concentration and reduce fatigue and exhaustion.

Lavender and Rose oils are great for reducing anxiety and irritability. They are also great for stress relief.

Lemon is another common essential oil that is used to reduce sadness, fear and fatigue and boost your memory and concentration.

We could go on and on but the point for today is to take a moment and stop and appreciate your sense of smell.
